  No, QuickTime's Movie Player & Real Player is not compatible with Windows Media clips.

  Not really, it would take a very long time for the clip to start.  It would then only play for a few seconds before needing to buffer.

  The choice is yours.  Microsoft in pretty good about making quick download patches to update your media player.
