Palm Bay, Florida

Palm Bay is located midway between Jacksonville and Miami in southern Brevard County on Florida's Space Coast.  Palm Bay covers 65 square miles making it the sixth largest city in Florida.  It is adjacent to the Indian River Lagoon and is only minutes away from the Atlantic Ocean.  Kennedy Space Center is 45 miles North and Orlando’s attractions are only 60 miles West.

There are many high tech employers in Palm Bay; Harris Corporation & Intersil being the largest employers at the present time.  In the 1850’s, Palm Bay was a small settlement know as Tillman.  After the arrival of the railroad in 1894, more and more families started to immigrate to the area.  Palm Bay received its present name in the 1920’s.  The name came from the Palm Trees that surrounded the bay at the mouth of Turkey Creek.  Palm Bay was incorporated in 1960 and since then has become a strong hold for major high tech businesses in Brevard.

An abundance of recreational opportunities exist all over the county.  Palm Bay has eight public parks throughout the city.  One of these is the site of the Palm Bay Community Center offering leisure and indoor activities.

Adjacent to the center is 113 acres of natural vegetation called the Turkey Creek Sanctuary.  This unusual area is full of many rare and endangered plants and animals.  Encounter the natural habitat of three of Florida’s distinct plant communities on the 4,000 foot boardwalk.  Experience the true Florida by renting a canoe or kayak to explore this unique area.

The Wet Hammock is the mature forest surrounding Turkey Creek.  The area is full of canopy trees and animals native to Florida like the river otter, water turtles, alligators, manatees and several species of fish.  It is also home to migratory birds like the rare white pelican.  The Anastasia Formation is a unique geological rock statue beneath the wet hammock.  The formation has a bed of fossil bones over 250,000 years old.

Palm Bay has incredible fishing opportunities for even the most experienced angler.  There are countless freshwater streams, the Indian River Lagoon and the Stick Marsh, which is nationally known for its abundance of Bass.

Palm Bay is a quiet suburban community with all the conveniences of a big city set in an unspoiled natural setting.
